There are 90 intellectual abilities that can affect learning. Research has established a definite relationship between these abilities and reading readiness, reading, arithmetic, mathematics, and creativity.

With this in mind, we utilize a special testing system called Structure of Intellect (SOI) developed by Dr. JP Guilford. Later, Dr. Mary Meeker, Guilford’s assistant, applied this testing to education and created a subsequent program that we use today.  Now, the SOI allows us to screen for:

Besides administering the SOI assessment, we do grade level placements in Math, Reading, Vocabulary, Reading Fluency, Reading Decoding, Reading Comprehension and Spelling. If needed, we administer a specialized Dyslexia test and the TAPS-3 (Test of Auditory Processing Skills) assessment.

Prescription for Success will improve learning skills and school performance that will provide a future of lifelong learning success.

BRIGHTER FUTURES START HERE!
Our center for learning in Parker, CO focuses its attention on these identified hidden obstacles to academic success:

  • Visual acuity-inability to make fine visual discrimination
  • Visual skills-inability to track, difficulty copying from blackboard to desk, etc.
  • Auditory acuity-inability to make fine auditory discriminations
  • Auditory skills-problems with auditory discrimination, auditory attention, etc.
  • Sensory integration-lacking balance, position in space, motor coordination
  • Learning abilities-intellectual abilities
Here is an example of what we do at our Center for Learning:
If a student comes to us having trouble with mathematics, especially multiplication, we would not do repeated drills with the multiplication tables. Our goal is to find out why the student is having trouble with mathematics. Our testing would pinpoint the specific intellectual abilities that are causing this difficulty with mathematics. If the weak intellectual abilities are fixed first, then, school mathematics will be easily learned in the future.
